Loves to tease you about your little collection. He knows it’s what makes you happy so he doesn’t go in too hard on you. He just likes to see you got pink in the face. His favorite thing is when you’re opening your little blind boxes and you make excited little expressions. He loves filming your unboxing an and keeping them for himself. He watches them back when he misses you. “Babe, those are kids toys!” He says. You glare at him, “quit being mean!”

Unsure of your little obsession at first but learned to just roll with it. Everytime you go out, you’ve got him looking at those little blind boxes. They make him think of you. When he goes on tour, he always brings back a ton of different blind boxes for you to open, including whichever your favorite ones are. If they make you happy, then he thinks he should support it. “Oh babe, what’s that?” He asks as you open another box, “they’re smiskis! Aren’t they the cutest! And they glow in the dark!”

He is in full support of your little trinket obsession! He loves the way you, once in a while, put them all on your desk and arrange them once again in a different order. Sometimes when you’re doing that, he’ll ask you about them just to hear you ramble on about them. “Oh yeah! And there’s gonna be a new Sonny angel collection soon! I’m excited to see what they’re going to look like.” He nods along as you speak, “that’s exciting! I promise I’ll buy you some boxes so you can get them all. You deserve them.” (Secretly takes some of your little toys and plays with them but we’re not ready for that discussion)

Clueless but supportive nonetheless. You were a little nervous to admit to him that you collect little figures but when you finally tell him, he doesn’t really care. It was a relief to you. Now, he’s on the phone right at the designated time, trying to snag you a labubu. If that doesn’t work after a few tries, he takes you straight to the nearest popmart at the next labubu restock. He’s aware that going through all that trouble for a mere bag charm may seem silly but it’s what makes you happy so it’s worth it. “Oh thank you, baby! Lychee Berry is gonna look so cute on my toe bag!” You hug him and he hugs you back. “Anything for you.”

He wants to start collecting because of you. He does it in a way that’s really lowkey because he’s not sure if you’ll approve of him wanting to follow in your footsteps. When he starts to get random boxes in the mail, you ask him what they are. He always says, “just new gym gear.” You believed him until you found a box of calico critters in his drawer while you were putting away laundry. You ask him about it and he’s folds, admitting he didn’t want you to think he was weird. “Awww kai, you’re so silly. How about we put our families together?” He nods, “okay, but only if they can kiss!”

COTL Update Predictions

Everyone hold! Hands in the air! This is NOT a drill.

I think I know what's in store for the next update (some of it, anyways). :3c

TLDR: I found the other Lambs.

After a bout of what could have only been Divine Inspiration, I turned my sights on the Fisherman. Because of the usage of the word "beasts" in reference to the four sea creatures Lamb is tasked with acquiring. And even in the questline ("Beasts Below the Waves"). Because beast is their word for people/humans. So when he says,

"Below these waves lurk some of the hardest to catch beasts that ever lived, and I've been trying for years."

He's not really talking about undersea critters. He's talking about people that have connections to the ocean. After retrieving all four "fish", the Fisherman grants Lamb tarot card #29, Neptune's Curse.

"Send 'em to sleep with the fishes." [Enemies have a chance to drop a fish.]

The 'X' in this fish's eye means less that it's dead, and more that it's associated with that symbol, Gebo. Which means "gift" as well as the act of giving and receiving gifts. It is also the rune of Odin, a God that dabbles in war, death, and knowledge, among many other things.

Sending someone to 'sleep with the fishes' means to kill them and dump the body in the ocean. The intention is that the fish will eat the evidence/speed up decomposition. But there's also references in-game to something ~more~ going on in the sea. Tarot cards wash up from the ocean. Hearts get brought down into it by Hathor. It's where an Old God hides, allegedly. Etcetera.

"Neptune's Curse" is usually used in reference to an area so risky to traverse, most ships sink attempting it. Sometimes the "curse" is the Kraken. So, Pilgrim's Passage and Turua. We can also look to Neptune's Greek equivalent, Poseidon, who cast a series of curses to punish a mortal for breaking a vow.

Fish is also used to describe someone gullible or someone bad at Poker (the opposite of a shark).

For those who are just skimming through. Inside Jalala's journal, the only observations she has about Anchordeep is the fish she found. Plus a lovely rendition of Kallamar drawn by Rinor.  But focusing on the fish…..

Four of the fish have lamb-eyes. The Lamb has a unique, horizontal, white, square pupil that isn't seen on any other character. Not even the Goat, which means their eyes aren't "just" drawn like that because they're a bovine. It marks them as special. Regardless of what it specifically means, the Lamb shares this trait with these beasts. That's important.

If it's not that they're all Lambs, then it's one of the other things we know about Lamb. Which isn't much. They're: A) the last of their kind, B) a conduit to Great power, and C) the Chosen One, allegedly.

The Tuna, the Salmon, the Blowfish, and the Swordfish are Lambs.

It's likely that they aren't literally fish (at least, they didn't start that way) but the descriptions and lore text could hint at further information about them.

At the start of the New Year, the COTL Twitter and Bluesky both posted "New Years, New Lambs" followed by "Lamb* IGNORE THE PLURAL, IGNORE IT"

This wasn't an accident lol. To make the same typo (and follow up) twice feels pretty intentional. Especially since they have Twitter Premium. If it was actually an oversight that people started making a big deal over, they'd just edit the post.

Besides! I found! The other Lambs!! They've been sitting in plain sight! The Pilgrim Pack is a part of the Unholy Alliance update, which itself is only the first half of the update they're working on.

I think the next half of the update will be directed towards the past. Since, ya know, all the Lambs are dead in the present. It'll get into "why a Lamb?" like they said, by exploring the role these other lambs played in the history of the Lands of the Old Faith. What they did and what happened to them. What makes a lamb a "Lamb".

Really, Pilgrim already places us in the past. Darkwood is in its Purged state, evidenced by the giant, toothy flowers being present despite Leshy's statue still being intact and unmarked. Therefore alive. Also the presence of certain ruins at the Lamb's cult (but, like, not ruined).

The Blowfish is "Both delicate and dangerous". I believe this might be a reference to the Fleece of the Glass Cannon or the Golden Fleece. But it could also be a reference to the Bane Gauntlets, "A venomous touch, however gentle." Their eye/Crown color is light blue and they're associated with yellow.

The Swordfish is "A truly remarkable catch." Likely meaning that they're an impressive, desirable partner. Anyone would be lucky to have them. They're also, aptly, a swordsman. Their eye/Crown color is orange, and they're associated with purple.

The Tuna is "A catch worth bragging about." Sharing a similar meaning to the Swordfish, but it says more about their partner than them. They're also a "delicacy for dedicated Followers", which I think is explicitly in reference to their partner. They were a follower. Ordinary. That, or they were literally eaten. "Devoured", perhaps. Their eye/Crown color is blue and their associated colors are red and tan(red-orange-ish). Also this fish, specifically, matches the image used in Neptune's Curse.

Finally there's the Salmon, who "Swims upstream against all odds." I think that speaks for itself. They were most definitely eaten by another but, being a "main dish" would imply that they and the Minnow ("a small addition to any meal") are a package deal. Their eye/Crown color is dark yellow and they're associated with teal. I think they may be connected to the Berserker Fleece or the Fleece of Fragile Fortitude.

That Minnow isn't a Lamb, but they are immune to damage. Their X looks a little different compared to the others, giving it the appearance of the shields Scamps will sometimes have. Their eye/Crown color is silver, and they're associated with green. If not paired with the Salmon, they're paired with the Tuna, since that contrast is being made between them. ("A catch not worth bragging about.")

The Minnow is also, seemingly, Heretic Black. The Crown that would have a silver eye. If not being them, holding a connection to them. Either way, they're also connected to the Divine Guardian curse, "Under the shadow of wings thou lie protected."

Btw, really adds a level of sinister to Fox's request to bring him a 'big fish'. He'll accept any but the Minnow who is, coincidentally, marked as protected.

Who are these lambs exactly? Only time will tell.

….buuut….. I have certain suspicions... There just so happened to be some official art posted on the COTL Twitter depicting our four Bishops as Over the Garden Wall characters. Take from that what you will, but feast your eyes.

Those. Are Lamb Eyes. I think I've made my case.

I have a question! About bugs and arachnids and all them. Sorry to lump them all into one category, but I'd rather not make the same post multiple times.

My question is: Can they learn "tricks?"

By this I mean are they capable of learning, in general, I suppose. Like mice in a maze, magpies with a rock.

Also, what sorts of things have they learned? How do they learn (like watching others or from experience)?

I ask because it's something that really interests me. I know the ability to learn doesn't add or subtract value from a being, it's a curious thought as I know very, very little about beetles, and spiders, and bees, and so on!

Do they just know how to do things because it's all their kind have done since the beginning of them? Do they have to learn or are capable of it?

Hywel is inspired by a mix of my issues with stories with nonhuman protagonist/about nonhumans becoming human AND vet posts ive seen warning people about the dangers of anthropomorphisizing animals. Its fine to joke about your pets doing things out of spite or other human emotions, it does put you at risk of not being able to read their body language correctly. Cats dont cry out of sadness, a cat crying, with actual tears streaming down its face, is a sign of a medical issue. A dog smiling isn't doing it bc its happy, it means its nervous. Not being able to spot these is bad, and sometimes even dangerous, for you and the animal.

If you never get past Hywel's human appearance and treat him like one its like getting a reactive dog, doing zero research or training, and then taking it to a dog park. If Hywel mauls someone in town then its on you.
